This idea sparked our creative journey starting a few years ago, what if water could flow over a sculpted 3D surface just like it does in nature.
Captivating Effects
Water, with its uninterrupted flow, serves as the ultimate truth-teller, effortlessly navigating surfaces to reveal their inherent qualities.
Medium of Expression
The natural intelligence of water can be a medium of expression. This is what we created. Whether it's the speed and direction of flow or the creation of dynamic water effects, our designs invite a symbiotic dance with nature's most elemental force.
How does this impact design?
By sculpting our surfaces and setting for the finish facade of a water feature we discovered how responsive water is to even the most minute texture.
Vertical Bliss
We learned that running our carved surface vertically, the water runs fast, pulling more flow and could even leave parts of the surface dry, despite that water starts evenly at the top of the surface.
Horizontal Heaven
Run the texture horizontally, and the water can pull the one side, or pull away from each other, creating different water effects.
Perfect Pitch
Pun intended!
Sometimes we recommend pitching the surface just a tad, instead of 90 degrees to 85 degrees. The slows the water down, just enough to so that we can enjoy it’s natural flow by grabbing the surface and not bouncing off of it. It’s completely optional, as 90 degree is very standard.
Depth!
It’s like writing music for water.
The water is so responsive to depth, that 1/16 of a inch can entirely change the direction of the water flow, enabling it to skip, creating white splashes or energy rushes, as the texture becomes more shallow, the water slows down, building up, and if desired, we can accelerate the flow with an attack of depth into the surface.
But we don’t stop there.
We also challenged ourselves by adding illumination. Taking advantage of water’s translucency, we also cast light through our surface and through the water designing an an designed environment that delights the senses.
